POWER REDUCTION CONSIDERATIONS FOR BULK CARRIERS WITH RESPECT TO NOVEL ENERGY EFFICIENCY REGULATIONS

After introducing an energy efficiency design index (EEDI) in 2011, International Maritime Organization (IMO) pursued their short- and long-term goals to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from ships by presenting, among others, existing ship (EEXI). Contrary EEDI which is used for new solely, EEXI addressing of already built set become formally applicable starting 2023. Existing designs cannot be essentially rapidly changed comply the criterion. The only main particular preliminary phase that can meaningly optimized “post festum” a required engine power, thus, speed.
